Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each service day is different depending on the farm’s needs and the time of year.

Typically, volunteers can expect to be outside doing projects that assist with general stewardship and maintenance of the farm.

Tasks may include weeding, raking, preparing the garden beds (removing rocks, spreading compost, grading dirt), various digging tasks (post holes, trenches for plumbing), litter pick up and many other tasks (too many to list them all).

Volunteers may also work indoors, either tending plants in our high tunnels or assisting with property maintenance, tool organization, and other various tasks.

For general farm service opportunities, volunteers may be asked to lift up to 50 pounds and will likely be standing or bending over during much of their service.

Tasks at the farm are physical, please be prepared to get in a little bit of a workout when coming.

  • We do not provide bottled water. Bring your own water bottles and snacks.

All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes or boots.

Dress to work! Choose clothing that is comfortable to move around in and you don’t mind getting dirty.

Dress for the weather. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Work gloves are provided, but bring your own if you prefer.

Leave valuables at home. We can assume no liability for lost or stolen items.

  • Volunteers should report to our farm office at 867 W. Town Street in Franklinton.

There is a parking lot in front of the office, with additional parking along Martin Avenue (just west of the office).

Unless told otherwise, your volunteer leader will meet you near the door.
