Franklinton Farms needs help to secure ownership of the Patrick Kaufman Memorial Learning Garden.
This is a vital community asset, yet the City of Columbus only offers Franklinton Farms a 30-day license agreement.
We are striving to negotiate deeded ownership, where the City deeds the garden to Franklinton Farms with a Right of Reversion within the deed so that the ownership reverts to the City if ever Franklinton Farms stops providing adequate community benefit.
Our efforts thus far in this campaign:
This March, The Franklinton Area Commission signed off on a letter of support that urges the City of Columbus to transfer the Deed to Franklinton Farms with a Right of Reversion that allows the City the land back should Franklinton Farms cease to provide community benefit.
In late April, Councilmember Tiara Ross enthusiastically supported the concept at an in-person meeting at the Learning Garden.
Since Fall ’25 I’ve made multiple asks to the Department of Development’s Division of Real Estate and Land Redevelopment for deeded ownership, but they have deflected.
In early April, we were informed by a City Staffperson that the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods, and the Director of the Department of Development were in discussion about this.
